Excellent: Illinois’ Death Row Shuts Down I agree with Greenberg– “Anytime you’ve got a system where there is a danger of providing retribution on the wrong person, that’s no different than vigilante justice.” If the the death penalty was publicly, openly, and admittedly viewed as a state-acting tool of vigilanteism, I might have different perspective on it. But as it stands now- cloaked in the veil of morality and theatrically portrayed as peace-providing Power for removing evil from society- I think it has no right to existence. Good for Illinois.
